8 Indoor Garden Ideas To Beautify Your Home

Plants bring so much to homes. They add life and greenery to corners, walls and nooks all year round and infuse a much needed splash of nature into human-built structures. Though outdoor plants are lovely, too, there’s something to be said for living alongside lush foliage inside. Indoor gardens are constant. In bad weather, cold seasons or in homes lacking outdoor spaces, plants gathered inside bring the same kind of joy that outdoor gardens possess.

Though indoor gardening has been around for centuries, in recent years it has exploded as a popular hobby and way to decorate an abode. This means there’s quite a large selection of plants to choose from and even more combinations of green things that can be paired together indoors. Start by looking at the rooms you’d like to incorporate an indoor garden in, then collect information about the type of environment.

1. Create an Herb Collection

A container garden of fresh herbs’ purpose is two-fold. It’s a little burst of green on your kitchen window sill, and it’s also a mini selection you can browse through while cooking. You can customize this type of indoor garden depending on the type of herbs you most enjoy. Plus, there’s nothing more satisfying than taking a plant from seed to plate.

2. Living Wall

These framed works of art can include lichens, mosses, succulents and other plant-like specimens. When placed on a wall, it’s like a small portal into a little green world. The living aspect of it can make it far more interesting for some people than just still painting or piece of art. Living plant walls can be purchased, but there are many tutorials available for creating and customizing your own.

3. Fill Window Sills With Plant Life

Sills are a tough thing to decorate without the end result looking cluttered. Plants are an easy fix for this, though. Whether they’re dotted along a sill in separate holders or planted together in an amalgamation of types in a planter or two, the greenery will instantly enliven a bare ledge. The location will also help your plants get great sunlight.

4. Style a Jungle Corner

The empty corners around a home often do well with a mini jungle. Vibrant plants of different heights, colors and textures can be staggered on shelving units or placed on various stands to create a compact plant oasis. Just be sure to pick plants based on how much light that particular area of your home gets.

5. Bring Potted Plants Indoors

Those large cement, ceramic and terracotta planters that often grace outdoor areas can be brought inside to serve as unique sculptural accents around the home. They’re also perfect pots for holding trees species that can thrive inside. Just double check that the drainage route is suitable for being indoors or equipped with a tray.

6. Choose a Plant Type or Theme

Love the desert? Wild about ferns? Obsessed with blooming plants? Pick a certain family of plants or a theme you like, and dedicate an area to bringing this look to life.. While many plants are fitting for any style of home, they can be used to enhance a specific aesthetic.. For instance, a fishbone cactus will certainly complement a coastal-inspired home, and a rubber tree is a nice choice for a modern room

7. Add Plants to an Unsuspecting Room

Indoor gardens are typically seen in living rooms and kitchens, but more rooms in the house can benefit from a collection. Bathrooms, for example, can be surprisingly nice spaces for plants that thrive in humidity and moisture-heavy environments—hang one in the shower or create a small plant tray on a shelf. Even a mudroom or laundry room that has a sunny window could be great places to add a small menagerie of plants.

8. Decorate with Trailing and Climbing Plants

The long vines of creeping, trailing and climbing plants tend to create decorate within themselves as they crawl up walls and around windows or across surfaces. There are also a wide range of types, so homeowners and renters can really hone in on a style they like. A string of pearl’s bubbly and spherical leaves are playful, whereas a pathos provides a more classic, leafy look.
